A quality niche perfume is an experience that goes beyond a typical pleasant fragrance. Only a few understand this as well as Spyros Drosopoulos, the creative force behind Seekwood. As a self-taught perfumer based in Rotterdam, Spyros has carved his own path in the perfume world. Drawing inspiration from his unique background in neuropsychology, Spyros’s story is a testament to curiosity and passion. He illustrates a life where he is both a student and a teacher, always eager to learn and share.
Career change
Spyros’s journey into perfumery began rather unexpectedly. “I had no idea you could create perfumes without a formal education,” he explains. However, after discovering the first wave of niche perfumers, he realized that creating fragrances wasn’t limited to those with traditional training. Encouraged by this newfound knowledge, Spyros decided to change careers. He took perfume courses in 2008 and, just two years later, launched Baruti, a brand that has since become synonymous with bold fragrances.
One of the first boutiques to carry Baruti was Perfume Lounge, founded by Tanja Deurloo. When Spyros presented his perfumes to Tanja, she was impressed by his originality and skilled craftsmanship, leading to a fruitful partnership.
The joy of collaboration
The joyful collaboration between these two “scent nerds,” as they are often referred to, also led to creating Seekwood. Spyros and Tanja wanted to capture the warm glow of sunlight on wood in a fragrance. The result is a layered blend of saffron from Greece, floral osmanthus and sunny citrus in the top with an earthy, woody base. Seekwood reflects Spyros’s desire to create a fragrance that’s both original and comfortable. By layering different notes, he created a fragrance that feels grounded and balanced, familiar yet unique.
What to expect from Seekwood
Seekwood is more than a perfume; it’s an invitation to pause and unwind. Spyros describes it as a feel-good fragrance, “I hope that wearing my perfume brings people a sense of joy and relaxation: the feeling of “I’m content and at ease, and there’s no need to rush”. Seekwood is a reminder to enjoy the simplest moments of life, how grand or small they may be.
