A scented memory of Amsterdam with Meabh McCurtin
As a Dutch fragrance house, we love exploring how scent and place are deeply connected—especially when it comes to our home city, Amsterdam. In this interview, we sit down with perfumer Meabh McCurtin, the creative mind behind Tipsy Tuberose, to revisit her time living in the city. From the historic charm of the Nieuwmarkt to the soft rain of spring. Meabh shares how Amsterdam has shaped her scent memories ánd when she would reach for Tipsy Tuberose in the city she once called home.
Since we are a Dutch brand, we’d love to hear your thoughts on Amsterdam. What is your most active first memory of Amsterdam?
I lived in Amsterdam from 2012 to 2017. The last neighborhood I lived in was at the Nieuwmarkt. I just lived on the corner and couldn’t imagine its rich history, all the things that have taken place in that square.
When would you wear Tipsy Tuberose if you were still living in Amsterdam?
Spring, when the elm trees lose their paper seeds, and it’s raining. Although I also think Tipsy Tuberose is great to wear during the winter. When all the windows are lit, with their warm colors, it’s a cozy time.
What is your favorite scent of Amsterdam?
I remember the smell of bread and bakeries, but also spicier smells like nutmeg and cinnamon. Cinnamon isn’t used that much in Paris. It’s very nice and warm.
