Eau d'Amsterdam - World Heritage in a Bottle

Last November, we proudly launched the first and only fragrance for Amsterdam, Eau d'Amsterdam.

We have 75.000 elms in our capital city and so their scent touches us unconsciously on a daily basis.

In Berlin they have the lime tree, in Paris the sycamore tree and Amsterdam has the elm tree.

For many centuries, Amsterdam has had elm trees framing the canals, and even today we still have 75.000 (!) all over Amsterdam and we take in their smell without realizing....

Saskia Hoogendoorn en Lieuwe Martijn Wijnands are artists from 'Tijdmakers" , and honour the elm tree every year with their Spring Snow Festival and so became fascinated by the fragrance of this tree.

Together with designer Tanja Deurloo, Annindriya and IFF's Olfactive Design Studio, they created Eau d'Amsterdam, Scent of the Canal Trees: the city's very first green perfume – World Heritage in a Bottle.

The perfume was officially presented by 'Meesterlijk', thé event for design, applied art and food in the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam at the end of November 2014. Here the makers of Eau d'Amsterdam demonstrated the 'making of' this perfume in a pop-up lab.

You can order this very special perfume here.

The revenues from the perfume contribute towards the organization of the Springsnow Festival.
